Resident Evil 2 Remake - Review




The best remake of mine is playing the 2002 remake of the first Resident Evil on GameCube with its perfectly refreshed visuals, totally new areas to explore, and unnerving new monsters. Now, in 2019, Capcom has given me another experience I'll recollect for quite a while: this ground-up remake of Resident Evil 2 is an extremely fun, exceptionally frightening experience because of its totally new and modern graphics, controls, and some brilliant quality-of-life upgrades. The two playable characters' stories aren't as different as I've expected, yet I enjoyed every gory moment of my return to Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield's shoes. 

Reliving familiar frights can often make for a less than exciting horror experience. But, with the remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom shows respect for the original while additionally putting forth an admirable attempt to give the macabre atmosphere and tense gameplay a recognizable upgrade. In doing as such, this revamp of the classic survival horror game shows that the series can still offer an terrifying experience like no other.




Resident Evil 2 takes place in the zombie-infected Raccoon City. The story follows rookie cop Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who is searching for her brother, Resident Evil protagonist Chris Redfield. Leon is drawn into the path of a mysterious femme fatale. Claire takes responsibility and tries to protect a kid. Their stories intersects - players experience one story, then play the other character's perspective—making an tapestry of one night's event in Raccoon City.

Resident Evil 2 is terrifying, and in an effective way that few other games manage to accomplish. The game is astonishing in the manner in which it fills players with fear, building anxiety with splendid sound design, cunningly placed jump scares, and overwhelming darkness. Players spend vast majority of the game fumbling through the dark, often running low on supplies and constantly having to deal with variety of undead horrors like zombies, lickers, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Even standard zombies are a threat this time around, making each experience tense and meaningful.




Out of all the freaky monsters in Resident Evil 2, the scariest is by far the Mr. X Tyrant. Mr. X's appearance in the first Resident Evil 2 earned him a frightful reputation, but in the remake, he's a true force to be reckoned with. Whenever he shows up, Mr. X relentlessly stalks players, following them room to room like a slasher movie villain. Hearing his relentless footsteps getting louder and louder, knowing there is nothing you can do to stop him, fills you with a true sense of dread. With Mr. X breathing down their neck, Resident Evil 2 players will understand the horror movie trope of people tripping or committing mistakes when running from the villain isn't as outlandish as it appears. Players will fumble with their inventory as they attempt to rapidly solve puzzles before Mr. X arrives, or they may make a wrong turn and end to up at a dead-end, leaving them no choice but to confront the hulking monstrosity head-on.

Both Claire and Leon have two different versions of the campaign, and subsequent to completing the first run for the one, you'll be incited to begin a follow-up with the other. Called Second Scenarios, they allow you to see the larger story from a different perspective. Both scenarios are completely isolated from another, and decisions in that won't affect the other, however what makes these second runs a bit worthwhile are some experiences and sub-plots that don't happen in the first. It's an exceptionally fascinating approach to encounter the story, and with four versions of the campaign between the two leads - with the initial two averaging 11-14 hours - you always uncover new details and events that were absent in the previous playthroughs.




Resident Evil 2's more serious tone is additionally improved by the upgraded, fantastically atmospheric presentation, which gives familiar details from the classic game to a greater extent an articulated look and feel. Moving away from the static camera angles of the original, everything has been redesigned in light of over-the-shoulder gameplay, giving to a greater extent an unmistakable and obtrusive feeling of fear while exploring, This is increased significantly more by the flawless audio and visual design of the game, giving a creepy, isolating vibe all throughout the game. Now, talking about the zombies, I must say these are the most terrifying and at the same time most perfect zombies I've ever seen in a game. And rather than pixelated characters running from pre-rendered background to pre-rendered background, Resident Evil 2 is a completely 3D, over-the-shoulder affair with atmospheric lightning effect, noteworthy facial animations, and the most terrifying looking zombies I've ever seen in a game. They're juicier than ever and I love the way in which they lurch around and respond when you blow off very specific chunks of their heads and hands cordiality of the satisfyingly detailed dismemberment system.

As always, inventory and ammunation management is still a key part of Resident Evil 2's gameplay. This is a real survival horror, where it generally appears as though you're barely scratching by with enough ammunition and medification. You can't carry all that you find with you, so what you should store and what you should carry is a fight continuously being waged in your mind.


The Verdict

Capcom did a fabulous job of resurrecting all the best parts of the classic Resident Evil 2 and making them look, sound, and play like a 2019 game. It's simply a strong horror game that delivers anxiety-inducing and grotesque situations, toping some of the series' best entries. But above all, the remake is an impressive game for the fact that it bets everything on the pure survival horror experience, unquestionably grasping its frightening tone and rarely letting up until the story's conclusion. The only disappointment you will find is the two characters stories' which aren't different enough to

First Post In A Long Time

Can't wait for Eldar to come to AI!

Well, what can I say? I've been gone a long time. The last time I posted on the blog was over a year ago, covering ASOIAF. Since then, a lot has changed: Work got busy, got a kid on the way, COVID, and the craziness that is 2020 keeps on coming.

I'm not even sure who even follows the blog anymore so I'll try and keep this brief, just to test the waters. To keep everyone honest, there's a lot of content out there that talks about 40K these days. I stopped writing and started listening more to podcasts, watching others play games on YouTube and reading other blogs out there that are really informative and interesting. While I still play the game, I just haven't been writing as much because well, there's not that much need to.

The games I still play are:
  • Warhammer 40K (yup, still playing.. since 3rd lol)
    • All Eldar - DE primary, then E, then Harlequins
  • Age of Sigmar (fairly recent)
    • Hedonites of Slaanesh
  • Aeronautical Imperialis (just built my Tau, waiting on Eldar, still haven't played a game)
    • Tau, until Eldar come

Games that I have currently retired:
  • X-Wing (sold all of it after FFG rebooted/destroyed it)
  • Armada (packed up and sitting in the garage, just got boring with no new content)
  • ASOIAF (packed up as well, just couldn't find any interest nearby or in my immediate playgroup)

Since I promised to keep this brief, I'm just going to leave it at that. If anyone is still following, let me know if you want to see some content on 40K, AoS or AI. I know with 9th Ed. coming up, there's going to be plenty for me to write about. I also don't see a lot of content out there for Aeronautica for some reason, maybe that can be something I can get into.

New Year, Fist Update....


Hello all,
 

Just wanted to drop in and give an update. The transition from WGF is complete, we have our warehouse and have been shipping from that location for about two months. We have worked out the software issues for the wholesale orders and have been filling them.
 
We have about a year's supply of product on hand and OOS items such as the Panzerjäger are on the water heading here now.
 
I have been working on the day to day business aspects, cost analysis, product restocks back end implementation issues, etc. so not a lot of glamorous items to give an updated on for that front.
 
We have two restock orders incoming from China, the cost has been educational. The cost of shipping is not just crazy expensive for my customers but for us as well. In some cases, it costs more to ship a product than it does to produce it, in other cases the cost to produce a kit was not in line with what it is being sold at into distribution. Some kits were being sold at a net loss once shipping was factored in. Unfortunately, this will mean a price increase, some kits will see a marginal increase, other will be a bit more drastic.

I will give a detailed SKU by SKU run down and explanation later this week.
 
We have two new SKU's that will be offered once they arrive. The 15mm scale Capacitor cooler and a 60mm tall display model of one of our Assault Troopers. We should have these in hand sometime next month. We are putting the final touches on the files for the Shadokesh main trooper box set. No eta on a release date yet for the Shadokesh, until they are on the water and heading here it is simply impractical to give an estimate.

Chassuer Pics And Update


 At the beginning of the month I made the trip up to the WHC for Gerry's birthday game, as I said before, a bit sad, as everything is going to close there and move to Basingstoke for next year. The event itself was however as much fun as it always is, thanks to all the players and of course Gerry for putting it on and Anne for putting up with 10 hungry gamers all week.
We played 3 games, an Eylau scenario which saw me playing Davout with a flank attack being faced off by Gerry who led me a merry dance fending off my infantry with repeated cavalry charges and lots of his pesky light infantry units ....I wasn't a huge fan of his new light infantry rules before and I'm less of one now!...to be honest, I don't mind the rules themselves but its the quantity of the units he is employing that I feel is colouring the game. The odd btn here and there would be fine, but with some formations having 3 or 4 of these each they can dominate. I don't think the staggered bases add much to the visuals either.
That said, we had a great time, so who cares?
 Game 2, Friedland, saw me battering away at Herbert, quite a relaxed game. He wasn't coming forwards into my massed Russian gunline and I wasn't going to far forwards into the minefield defence he'd set up around a village. He had to wait until my flank was threatened and the position unhinged by (wait for it) copius quantities of Light btns romping through a wood on my right. Then I had to fall back slowly but he didn't have the strength to press his attack. The French weight was elsewhere on the other side of the river.
The final game was an 1813 "what if" - Spremberg, a normal game without the light btn rules etc, to be honest I enjoyed this the most despite the fact that we cocked up our deployment and had too much cavalry in the wrong place (in front of a redoubt, - although we didn't know it was there). Nonetheless we had a fine game.
 A biggish project prior to Christmas was going down to the new WHC at Basingstoke to see Mark Freeth's new set-up..well, at the moment its a big, airy, empty unit! Not strictly true after me visit as I dropped of a very full van load of timber in order to help mark build the all important tables. I've volunteered my rudimentary carpentry skills to help him and we are going to start building in the new year. Should be pretty straightforwards but blimey, do you need a lot of wood!
He finally has his website up and running so I said I'd pass it on here to any of you avid readers who hadn't seen it  
All sorts of stuff in there, lots of pics (some taken by me!) and info on the fairly packed programme he has prepared for 2011.
So, if any of you fancy a big game weekend he deserves your support, I shall certainly be able to get over there more often in future. I timed the drive, door to door is less than an hour from West London! Big difference to the five hours each way to Scarborough.

Last, but not least a quick word about the photos, I realised I have no pics of Napoleon on this site....Now I thought that was a bit remiss considering the majority of stuff here is "Napoleonic". So a pic of him and his staff and naturally the accompanying regt of Chassuers to go with him. Mostly Connoissuer figures with a few Surens I think- all painted by Doug Mason and now all about to move from Yorkshire down South.
